You Say Potato...

While getting Louisa dressed this morning, she was holding one of her very favorite things.
I asked her, "Is that your book?"
She replied, "No. Buh."
Mommy: "BooK."
Louisa: "No. BUH."
Obsessive, Controlling Parent: "BOOK. KUH. KUH. KUH. KUH."
Stubborn, Genius Child: "Kuh. kuh. kuh. kuh. No.... buh."

Fine. Buh it is.

Feeling Saucy

This is what happens when you turn your back for 60 seconds on a 2-year-old with a bowl of applesauce.

Mommy, I can explain.

I blame it on this crazy spoon.

Snow Day - Southern Style

As surprised as we were to see snow here, we were even more surprised to find out that school was cancelled the following day. Being mid-west snow snobs, Charlie and I shook our heads and chuckled at the local panic. C'mon, people, get a grip. This is nothing!
Now THIS is a snow day:
Cousins Paige, Peyton and Talbot playing in the snow with Avery
St Louis, December 2007

Even though there wasn't much snow, we still went into a snow day agenda with full force.
Sleep in. Eat a late breakfast. Watch cartoons. Lounge. Wii. Lounge. Play dress up. Hairdos. Eat a late lunch (soup, of course). Color. Build a fire. Snuggle under a blanket and watch a movie. Nap.
We would have gone outside at some point to play in the snow, but it had all melted the night before.

Playing doggies.

Mulan hairdo.

Snow? Really?

I didn't think I'd see it this winter, but there it was. Snow. Big, wet, happy, sloppy snowflakes.  Avery was simply beside herself. She hasn't seen snow since we moved from the midwest last year and she could not wait to get outside.
"Hurry, Mom. I need my snow pants!"
"Um...I think you'll be ok, Avery."
Surprisingly, it starting sticking, so Avery and her neighbor buddy got out the wheelbarrow and shovels to collect as much as snow as possible. They were absolutely soaked, because it was more like rain than snow, but they had a blast just the same.

Hello, old friend.

Neighborhood Snow Patrol.

Sleeping in (minus the sleeping part)

Why do children view their parents' bed as a playground and their own beds as a torture device?
